The marketing challenge

The venue that hosted two Super Bowls, two Olympics, a World Series, thousands of professional and college football games and hundreds of concerts from the Pope to The Rolling Stones wanted to “go small.”

The “venue within a venue” concept was born.

MMA: The beta test

The Coliseum hosted multiple events over 3 weeks entirely in the Coliseum Plaza area. We leveraged the stature of the Coliseum to elevate amateur MMA competition.

Making it happen

  • Multiple emails sent to people who purchased tickets for other Coliseum events

  • Multiple Facebook, Instagram and Twitter event posts and photo caption contests

  • LA Coliseum website banner ads

  • Street teams used to reach USC students

  • LA Weekly ad campaign

  • Facebook video ad campaign

The results

The LA Coliseum won the belt!

The “venue within a venue” proof of concept was successful. In 2021 the LA Coliseum is slated to compete with smaller venues like The Greek and Microsoft Theater.
